2024 KOC Event Rules

2024 BTE KOC Series Presented by McMurtry’s Racing Engines Rules and Regulations.
updated 12/22/2023- rule updates are in BOLD.

  1. All Racers that Compete in Events 1-4 of the 2024 KOC Season will be automatically enrolled in the 2024 Points Series for FREE. If a racer chooses to join Points Season, there will be a $30 registration fee for those that do not attend Events 1-4 of the 2024 Season.
  2. One Single Point will be earned for each round won. Points are earned by driver in direct relation to the car number the driver enters his/her first KOC Event of that year. A racer should maintain same number throughout year. Any changes to number must be approved by Event Director.
  3. Each driver will receive one point for staging entry in round 1 of eliminations or round 2 of eliminations (but not both) of each individual race. (Once Time Trials have started for that day all racers that have purchased tech cards for that day will receive a single point if eliminations do not start or not completed due to the weather or any other unforeseen circumstance)
  4. A driver may only earn KOC points with One, (1), Permanent number per Class. (Clarification- a racer can earn King of the Coast points with a single Points number in Pro Electronics and a single Points number in Pro Footbrake.
  5. All drivers that are double entered (driving same car twice) will be required to put an “X” behind number for the second entry. In addition, the racer’s second time down the track during any Elimination round will be racer’s second entry (“X” entry). If a driver forgets to add the “X” to his/her second entry it will added by race director on the run sheet for that round. (The only exception to rule is if driver has two entries in any round and is the Potential Bye on his/her first (non X) Entry.
  6.  KOC Championship Points will be posted on various social media outlets and will be driver’s responsibility to confirm correct points totals. Once Event starts points totals from previous event will not be changed unless KOC Official's calculation of point’s totals exceed correct number of points. It will be racers responsibility to verify point’s totals.
  7. Buybacks will be 1st or 2nd Rd. (2nd Rd Buybacks can be eliminated in event of time constraints or weather challenges)
  8. Wild Card Entries cannot receive a bye run under any circumstance and cannot earn KOC Points. Wild Card Entries can receive a competition bye run.
  9. I) In the Electronics, Footbrake and Sportsman classes there will be NO Ladders. Ladders will be used In Jr. Dragsters Starting with the 4th

Race Guidelines for Electronics, Footbrake and Sportsman

  1. Hardship Rule- Applies if a racer breaks the racecar he/she has entered into that day’s race or the three-day event. Before 1st round of eliminations, drivers may put their number on another car. This must be verified by the race director. There will be no “Broken Car” credits issued. “No Exceptions.”
  2. a Racer may switch cars (car must not still be in race) during eliminations ONLY with prior approval from race director Gaylon Rolison. No Time Trial will be given in this case.
  3. A driver or drivers will be permitted to drive the same car in Footbrake & Electronics. When said car that is entered in both Footbrake and Electronics, the transbrake button but be disabled in such a way that race director can visibly see the transbrake button is not operable. (i.e. wrapping rag around transbrake button) Additionally a Footbrake and/or Electronics Entry cannot be entered in the Sportsman Class.Once racer pre-stage their race car, Dial Ins are final (cannot be changed) and both racers accept the race.
  4. Race starter has complete control of the starting line and racing surface. For the Electronics Class the quicker dialed car is also responsible for the correct dial in being displayed of his/her opponent if the driver of the quicker dialed car is unitizing the dial of the slower dialed car for purposes of Crosstalk/Blind Cross.
  5. Saturday’s 1st Rd. earned possible bye run will be awarded to the racer with the best reaction time of the final time trial session if there is an odd number of entries in that 1st Rd. Upon there being two or more of the same best reaction times, the racer who accomplished the feat FIRST will be awarded the 1st Rd. Possible Bye. Sunday’s 1st Rd. Bye Run will be awarded to the WINNER of Saturday’s Race if there is an odd number of entries in that 1st Rd.
  6. An entry cannot have two bye runs (bye run – driver/entry physically staging the car under power and going down track alone due to an odd number of cars in a given round of competition or simply staging car under power) in any single race unless the remaining drivers remaining in competition have all had bye runs in that race. If all remaining entries in competition have all had bye runs, the entry with the best reaction time of the previous round will earn the bye run for that round if there are an odd number of entries left in competition or there are an even number of entries left in competition and one or more entries are not able to continue in that race resulting in an odd number of entries.
  7. If an entry is eligible for a possible earned bye run in any round, and that racer with the possible earned bye is forced to run another entry due to the round having an even number of entries, the said entry with the possible earned bye run will have lane choice. (Having lane choice and using a bye run are NOT treated as equal with respect to determining a possible bye run for a driver. Having a bye run is considered “greater” than lane choice)
  8. If an entry that has earned a possible bye run in any round and is forced to race another entry due to the event of an even number of entries in that round and wins that round, that entry will earn a possible bye run for the next round of competition.

(rule clarification-Entry “A”, Entry “B” and Entry “C” are the only competitors left in competition and Entry “A” and Entry “B” have both have earned and used a possible bye run due to a round having an odd amount of entries, Entry “C” can and will earn a bye run even if Entry “C” earned a possible bye run earlier in that race but did not actually make a bye run due to that entry having to run another entry due to an even amount of entries in that round and losing that round.)

9. Saturday’s Race Winner will earn the possible bye run if there an odd number of entries for 1st round of eliminations of Sunday’s race. (If Saturday’s WINNER is not in competition for Sunday the best reaction time from the last time trial session will be awarded the 1st Rd. possible bye run. Upon there being two or more of the same best reaction times, the racer who accomplished the feat FIRST will be awarded the 1st Rd. possible bye run if there an odd number of entries for the 1st round of eliminations.)

10. Lane choice will be determined by a flip of the coin when both drivers request the same lane once paired during eliminations.

11.Once a racer signs his/her tech card, he/she accepts that his/her car can be inspected at any time during the event weekend and understands Official King of the Coast Rules.

12. Once Entering staging lanes during Eliminations, a racer MUST STAY IN LANE HE/SHE INITIALLY CHOOSES AND CANNOT MOVE TO ANOTHER LANE. If an entry pulls into a lane that was not assigned to his/her class, entry will be paired with last remaining entry of the round. THE KOC STAGING DIRECTOR, ANY OTHER KOC OFFICIAL OR HOST TRACK OFFICIAL MUST SEE THE VIOLATION FOR DRIVER TO BE PLACED IN THE INITIAL LANE HE/SHE CHOSE.

13. When eliminations begin an entry is considered paired with another entry when the paired entries are at most the fifth pair of entries in their respective lanes. If an entry is paired and cannot proceed to race, the entry will be assigned a two minute grace period from the time the paired entries are requested to the burn out box. If the entry is still unable to proceed, the entry will be eliminated from competition and a competition bye run will be given to entry that is in the burn out box. (A competition bye run and a used possible bye run are not considered the same when determining a new possible bye run in any round of competition/eliminations .A driver will not be eliminated from the possibility of earning a possible bye run in any round or eliminations due to said driver using a competition bye run.)

14. Dial-Ins cannot be changed once entry passes the "No Dial Changes Past this Point" Signs. If driver is found to have violated Rule “K” under Race Guidelines for Electronics, Footbrake and Sportsman by a KOC Official or Host Track Official will require the racer to display original dial-in.

15. A driver must stage his/her entry under power to receive credit for participating in any round of eliminations.

16. Once entry is Pre-Staged, the entry MUST not be touched by crew member of said entry. Violation of this rule can result in the elimination of said entry and a competition bye will be awarded to said entries opponent. A KOC OFFICIAL OR HOST TRACK OFFICIAL MUST SEE THE VIOLATION FOR DRIVER/ENTRY TO BE ELIMINATED FROM COMPETITION.

17 .Once Eliminations begin in the Electronics Class, drivers in doorslammers (left hand steered cars) and drivers in dragsters (center steered cars) will be run separate for the first five (5) rounds of eliminations. All remaining cars left in competition will be merged together for the 6th round of eliminations will remain in this manner for the duration of the race. Doorslammers do have the option to compete with the dragsters during the first four rounds of eliminations.

18. Doorslammers will be called to lanes first during elimination for those 1st five rounds. If a driver of a doorslammer is holding the possible bye run, he/she will be run at the end of the dragsters during that round. If there are an odd number of dragsters the driver of the doorslammer will be paired with the last dragster of that round. If there are an even number of dragsters during that rounds, the driver of the doorslammers will be use his/her bye run.* Additionally, if there two or more doorslammers requesting the same lane, A coin flip will decide lane choice.

19. If there are an odd number of doorslammers (not including the entry that is holding the possible bye run if the entry is a doorslammer or doorslammer entries that have elected to compete with the dragsters in said round) the last doorslammer will be paired with a dragster in said round.*

*(Rules G2 and G3 are implemented to keep from having two bye runs during a round. Two bye runs during a round could lead to a race going an extra round.)

20. Center Steered Roadsters are considered dragsters and left hand steered roadsters are considered doorslammers.

21. Time Trial will be given on Saturday PER ENTRY (Day 1) and Sunday (Day 2) one time trial will be given to all entries before the start of eliminations. New Entries for Sunday will be given two time runs. New Entry defined as racer that has not been down track on Saturday.

22. A race in considered a pair one race vehicle is 5 cars or less from the front of staging lanes in relation to competition bye runs.

23. Any clarification of a rule not covered in 2024 KOC Rules and Regulation will be made by Event Director.

Footbrake/ Sportsman (Additional Rules & Regulations)

  1. Air or Electric Shifters will be allowed.
  2. The use Two-Steps, Transbrakes, and Delay boxes are not allowed when leaving the starting line.
  3. Line Locks can only be used for burn out purposes only.
  4. Deep Staging will be allowed & Guaranteed in the Footbrake, Sportsman and Jr. Dragster Classes. (Racers deep staging must write “DEEP” on ALL sides of car ((Jr. Dragsters and Left Hand steered roadsters-two sides, Doorslammers-four sides)) during all time trials, Run for Money, and Eliminations. If racer does not write “DEEP” on ALL sides of entered car and results in race starter NOT “holding tree” for said deep stager during eliminations and/or Run for the Money, the racer accepts the result of that race with no liability being placed on race starter.)
  5.  No starting line enhancers will be allowed. (example- Throttle controls, staging solenoids, two steps, etc.)
  6.  Cars can be randomly inspected.
  7.  Center Steered racecars are NOT allowed in Footbrake/Sportsman Classes which include center steered roadsters. Left Hand steered roadsters are allowed in Pro Footbrake but NOT the Sportsman Class. Doorslammers ONLY in Sportsman.
  8. Min Dial in Sportsman Class is 7.50. Additionally, a Sportsman Racer may not compete in the Electronics or Footbrake Class in same race day. Race vehicle is permitted in Sportsman Class and Electronics/Footbrake in same race day. Sportsman Class is a Footbrake ONLY class.
  9. No RPM controllers of any kind, can be used in the staging process.

(Electronics)-Additional Rules & Regulations

  1. Electronic altering, predicting equipment that in any way adjusts/autocorrects the vehicle’s E.T. after it has left the starting line, this includes stutters, top end RPM limiters, GPS controllers, traction controllers, counter interfaces, MSD Grid Box used with Arc Module 7761 or the like of is strictly prohibited. Any violators will be disqualified from the event, suspended indefinitely and any points, prizes, or purse will be forfeited. There will be no refunds or credits given if competitor is found violating these rules.
  2. Cross Talk/Blind Cross can be turned OFF at request of racer AND placing the letter "N" with circle around letter in front of dial-In AND (NOT OR) NOTIFYING KOC Staging Lanes Official or Gulfport Dragway Starting Line Official.

Junior Dragster Rules & Regulations

  1. Once Jr is pre-staged, Jr. can no longer be touched by pit crew.
  2. Drivers Meeting Prior to each Race. (Mandatory)
  3. 7-9 Min Dial is 11.90
  4. 10-12 Class Min Dial is 8.90
  5. 12-17 Class Min Dial in 7.90, Elite License Holders May dial no faster than 7.50.
  6. Deep Staging will be allowed & guaranteed in t Jr. Dragster Classes. (Racers deep staging must write “DEEP” on ALL sides of car during all time trials, Run for Money, and Eliminations. If racer does not write “DEEP” on ALL sides of entered car and results in race starter NOT “holding tree” for said deep stager during eliminations and/or Run for the Money, the racer accepts the result of that race with no liability being placed on starting line director.)
  7. In the 7-9 Class ONLY One Pull Back permitted during eliminations. Only the starting line director will pull back entry behind the stage and pre-stage bulbs. ADDITIONALLY, IF A RACER IS GIVEN A ROLLBACK AND IF HIS/HER COMPETITOR IS STAGED/PRE-STAGED, BOTH RACERS WILL BE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO RE-DO THEIR STAGING PROCESS.
  8. 6 non-Negotiables. All racers must have in order to make pass down the track. 1-Race Gloves, 2-Race Pants, 3-Race Jacket, 4-Full Face Race Helmet with shield, 5-Arm Restraints, 6-Closed Toe Shoes.
  9. Jr. Racer must keep all safety equipment on at all times until race vehicle is off and comes to a complete stop.
  10. No race vehicle may be driven through the pits. An area at end of track will be designated for jr dragster to park after making run.
  11. All race vehicles should have a “kill” switch accessible to driver.
  12. Any violation of any Jr. Dragster rule in the same event weekend can result in disqualification of that day’s event in which the second violation occurred. Any points earned will NOT be forfeited.
  13. Once race reaches 4th Rd. of Eliminations, race will be laddered with lane choice determined by coin flip.
  14. Auto Start will be set on 10 Seconds for 10-12 and 12-17 Age Groups. 
  15. Racers that have the Elite License and Dial 7.50 7.99 MUST have approved Wings on Jr. Dragsters.
  16. Any Racer that runs 2 tenths faster ( 1 tenth for Elite License Holders) under minimum dial/E.T. as dictated by age will be issue a warning for first violation. 2nd violation will result in disqualification off all scheduled racing as listed on event flyer.

Miscellaneous Rules & Regulations

  1. No broke passes will be issued.
  2. Rainouts- Saturday-If 3rd Rd has not been completed due to rain or any other circumstance in any class, Saturday’s Purse and Buybacks will be combined Sunday’s Purse and Buybacks. If 3rd Rd has been completed, every effort will be made to complete race on Sunday morning with NO trial.
  3. Rainouts- Sunday-If 3rd Rd has not been completed due to rain or any other circumstance in any class, racers with weekend entries will be given a rain check that reflects the difference between a weekend entry and single day Entry. Single Day Entries will receive a rain check for a single day entry.
  4. For All rounds complete, KOC Points are earned toward KOC Championship Points Standings.
  5. If a KOC Event is cancelled due to weather or cancelled due to any other unforeseen circumstance, up to two cancelled events can be attempted to be rescheduled. If the Final Event is cancelled, the event will be rescheduled. If Final KOC Points Race is Cancelled, It will be rescheduled the following Weekend. If reschedule date is canceled, Points are final and Champions Crowned)
  6. If you leave the track premises during the weekend, please be sure to have attendance wrist band for re-entry.
  7. If deemed that a timing system and/or starter malfunction had an effect on the outcome of a race by the KOC Race Director, the racer will be advanced to the next round of eliminations if the malfunction occurred during a buy back round (1st Rd or 2nd Rd)
  8. If the timing system and/or starter malfunction have been determied to have an effect on the outcome of a race during non-buyback rounds (3,4,5,6,…) the race in which the timing system malfunction occurred will be deemed a re-run, (printer malfunction(s) WILL NOT result in a re-run.) In the event of a rerun, dial ins and lanes must remain the same as the race where the timing system malfunction or any unforeseen circumstance that may have occurred (ex. animal on the track) that resulted in the re-run.
